Business Security Systems and Cameras
IP cameras, access control and alarms — designed, installed and supported alongside the rest of your network.
Kookaburra Comms designs and installs business security systems including IP cameras, access control and alarms across Melbourne and Victoria. Because we also do the cabling, networks and cloud platforms, your security infrastructure is integrated, properly powered, properly monitored and supported by one team rather than three.
Key facts
- IP cameras and access control should be designed with switching capacity, PoE budgets, VLANs and storage in mind.
- Many business camera systems use 30 to 90 day retention targets, depending on risk and compliance needs.
- Network-integrated security reduces handoff problems between cabling, IT and security trades.
Common use cases

- Securing warehouses, yards and outdoor areas

Why integrating security with your network matters
A common pattern: cameras installed by a security trade, network installed by an IT provider, alarms installed by a third — and when something goes wrong, each blames the other. We avoid that by designing the cabling, network and security together. PoE budgets are calculated, VLANs are configured, storage is sized, and one team is on the hook for the whole thing.
The result is a security system that’s reliable, easy to use, easy to extend, and supported by people who understand it end-to-end.

Frequently asked questions
- Can security cameras and access control run on our existing network?
- Yes, with the right design. We usually put cameras and access control on their own VLAN with appropriate firewall rules, and check PoE budgets, switch capacity and recording bandwidth before quoting so the install doesn't compromise the rest of the network.
- Do you store recordings on-site or in the cloud?
- Either, or both. On-site NVR storage gives you fast playback and is easier to scale for long retention. Cloud recording adds off-site redundancy and remote access. We size storage to your retention requirements (commonly 30–90 days) and any compliance obligations.
- Can multiple sites be viewed from one place?
- Yes. Modern platforms (including Ubiquiti UniFi Protect) let you see live and recorded video from every site in one app, with permissions per user.
- Do you handle alarms and monitoring as well as cameras?
- We integrate alarms with cameras and access control so an alarm event ties to the relevant footage and door activity. For 24/7 monitored response, we work with established Australian monitoring providers.
- Is camera footage handled in line with Australian privacy requirements?
- Yes. We help you put appropriate signage in place, restrict access to recordings, set retention periods, and document who can view what — in line with the Privacy Act and ACMA expectations.
